The Benefits of Ginger Ginger is a pungent underground rhizome.  It can vary in color, yellow, white or red, depending on the variety, and is covered with a thin or thick brownish skin.  Ginger is known to be used as an ingredient to add spice to your favorite dish.  It is also adds fragrance to your favorite cosmetics and soaps.  What most people do not know is that ginger can be used for medicinal purposes as well. Remove the slices and pour into a mug add your favorite condiments, like fresh lemon. When done with the tea eat the slices.  Drink up to three cups of tea per day, before meals. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the use of herbs can interact with other herbs or medications. Therefore it’s important to talk to your doctor before taking ginger. You should not take ginger if you suffer from a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medications (such as warfarin or aspirin)
